At least one person was killed and several others were wounded, including two paramedics, following a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Monday evening.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the casualties on Telegram, noting that the strike caused severe damage to civilian structures and damaged an ambulance responding to the area.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on X that Russian ballistic missiles directly struck a university campus. He emphasized that the attack targeted a densely populated area with no military facilities in the vicinity, adding that emergency crews were investigating reports of individuals potentially trapped under rubble.
The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the use of ballistic missiles in the bombardment as Russia intensifies its air campaign against Kyiv and other cities. Ukraine continues to face severe challenges intercepting high-speed ballistic threats due to a critical shortage of air defense ammunition, particularly for U.S.-supplied Patriot systems.
Following the attack, Zelenskyy urged international partners to provide Ukraine with the necessary military tools to destroy Russian missile launch sites directly, calling it the most effective method to save lives and protect civilians.
